The short answer
Every wall propagation station is sold with screws and none of them are sold with a renter in mind. Mount one on adhesive hooks rated well above its loaded weight — the glass and frame, not the water, are the load — and hang it where a knock cannot reach it. If you cannot commit to a spot, a desktop station does the same job and moves with the light.

A three-tier wall station full of cuttings is the best-looking object in this entire category and there is no point pretending otherwise. It is also the one that assumes something a renter cannot assume: that you can put screws into a wall. Every listing here ships with wall plugs and screws, none of them mention adhesive mounting, and the reviews are full of people who worked that out after buying.
So this page does the part the listings skip. The mounting problem, worked out
The good news is that these are light. Water is heavy in bulk but a propagation station holds almost none of it: twenty-one 20 ml tubes come to about 420 ml, which is 0.93 lb. The load is the wooden or metal back panel plus the glass, and that is typically two to four pounds shipped. Against an adhesive hook rated at 11 lb, even a generous four-pound estimate clears the 1.5x margin comfortably. Against the same hook, a 10-inch hanging plant does not.

An 11 lb adhesive hook clears this. Use the shipped weight from the listing rather than this example, and use two hooks where the station has two hanging points — a two-point hang is steadier and halves the load on each.
- Use the listing's shipped weight, not a guess. It is one of the few numbers this category does publish.
- Prefer two mounting points. A station on one hook rotates and swings; on two it does not, and each hook carries half.
- Mind the surface. Adhesive hooks need smooth, clean, painted wall. They do not hold reliably on textured wallpaper, brick or freshly painted surfaces — the paint has to be fully cured, which takes weeks not days.
- Hang it where nothing knocks it. Behind a door, beside a chair back, along a corridor — these are all places where a glass tube station eventually meets an elbow.
What we looked at, in order
- How many cuttings, and of what thickness. Twenty-one tubes is only an advantage if you have twenty-one thin-stemmed cuttings to fill them with.
- Are the vessels removable? Cleaning a fixed tube in situ on a wall is unpleasant enough that it does not get done.
- Mounting points and published weight. Two points beat one, and a published weight is what makes renter-safe mounting calculable at all.
- Does it survive being half full? A station with five cuttings in twenty-one tubes looks abandoned. Tiered designs handle partial loading better than grids do.

Twenty-one full test tubes is a meaningful load hanging off whatever the frame is screwed into. Water alone at 20 ml a tube is under a pound, but the frame, glass and cuttings add up and it all bears on one or two points.
At this scale the maintenance is the constraint, not the space. Twenty-one tubes is twenty-one water changes, and stations this size are usually half empty within a season.
Buy it if you propagate to give away or to sell. Buy five tubes if you propagate for yourself.

Fifteen is roughly the number of distinct plants a well-stocked apartment has, so it is the size at which you can take one cutting of everything at once.
Same wall-fixing caveat as every station in this format. If drilling is off the table, this is not the product.
Three tiers means the bottom row is at chest height and the top is above eye level, which is a reachability consideration if you are under five foot six.

This is the one format on the site that genuinely needs a fixing. A loaded three-tier station is not heavy, but wall stations hang from a keyhole slot over a screw, and a nail in plaster is not a fixing.
For a renter, the alternative is a 30 lb rated adhesive ceiling hook and a hanging vessel, or a desktop station. Both avoid the wall entirely.
The upside is real. Propagation takes desk space it does not deserve, and glass tubes at eye level are the most watchable thing in the room.

This is the wall format that survives a no-drilling lease, because a single small glass vase is light enough for an adhesive hook rated in the tens of pounds rather than the hundreds.
Independent vessels also let you spread cuttings across the light you have, rather than putting all of them wherever the rack fits.
Flat-backed vases hold less water than a jar and sit closer to the wall, which means condensation marks the paint behind them over time.
