Privacy policy

The short version

Pot & Prop has no accounts, no logins and no shopping cart. We do not ask you for anything except when you choose to use the contact form. Analytics tells us which pages are read and which buy buttons get clicked, in aggregate. Affiliate links tell the retailer that you came from here.

What we collect

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read, how they arrive, and which buy links get clicked. It collects the usual aggregate web analytics — pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, referring site — and it sets cookies to do so. We use it to decide what to write next and which pages need work. We do not use it to identify individual people, and we could not if we wanted to.

We record one custom event, affiliate_click, when a buy button is clicked. It notes which page it happened on and which product it was for. That is how a site with no checkout finds out whether its recommendations are useful.

The contact form

If you send us a message, we receive your name, email address, the subject you selected and what you wrote. It arrives as an email and it is used to reply to you. It is not added to any mailing list, it is not sold, and it is not shared with anyone.

The form also carries two anti-spam measures: a hidden field that a person never sees, and a timestamp recording when the page loaded so we can reject submissions made in milliseconds. Neither is used for any other purpose. We also apply a per-address rate limit using your IP address, held only in memory and never stored.

Server logs

This site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for operational and security purposes. We do not add to them and we do not use them for analysis.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or rent any data about you to anyone.
• We have no newsletter, so we are not collecting email addresses for one.
• We do not run advertising networks, retargeting pixels or third-party ad trackers.
• We do not create profiles of individual readers.
• We do not ask you to create an account, because there are no accounts.

Affiliate links and cookies

When you click a buy button, you pass through a redirect on this domain and arrive at the retailer with a tag identifying Pot & Prop as the referrer. The retailer — currently Amazon — may set its own cookies at that point, under its own privacy policy, which governs everything that happens once you are on their site. We receive no information about you from them; we receive aggregate commission reporting only. The disclosure page explains the funding model.

Cookies used here

• Analytics cookies, set by Google Analytics, to distinguish visits and sessions.
• Nothing else. This site sets no cookies of its own — there is no login, no preference to remember and no cart to keep.

Your browser can block or clear cookies, and browser-level tracking protection or an ad blocker will prevent analytics from loading at all. Nothing on this site stops working if you do that.

Children

This site is written for adults buying furniture and hardware. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. In practice we hold nothing about you unless you have emailed us, in which case we hold that email. Write to info@potandprop.com and we will deal with it.

For analytics, the most effective control is at your end: Google offers a browser opt-out add-on, and any tracking blocker prevents collection entirely.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. We do not update that date for cosmetic edits.
