Affiliate disclosure

The short version

Pot & Prop earns an affiliate commission when you buy something through a link on this site. It costs you nothing extra — the price you pay is the same as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly. This is how the site is funded and it is the only way the site is funded.

The Amazon Associates statement

Pot & Prop is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Which links earn a commission

Every product buy button on this site. They are marked #ad, they carry rel="sponsored nofollow", and they route through a /go/ link on our own domain before reaching the retailer so we can see which pages actually help people buy things.

Links inside articles that point to other pages on this site are ordinary internal links and earn nothing. Links to universities, extension services and other reference sources in our sources sections earn nothing and never will.

Currently the only retailer we have an affiliate relationship with is Amazon. Pot & Prop is a new publication and no other program has been joined, so no other outbound product link on this site earns anything at all.

What the commission does not change

• The ranking. Picks are ordered by the criteria on the methodology page — published specifications checked against computed pot weight, floor efficiency, and suitability for a renter. Commission rate is not one of the criteria and is not consulted.
• What we say about a product. Every pick on this site carries a stated reason to skip it, and several pages recommend the cheaper option or recommend not buying at all.
• Which retailer we prefer. Where a cheaper offer exists for the same product, we would rather send you there. The commission difference is not worth a reader who feels overcharged.

What we do not accept

• Free products. We have not been sent any of the products on this site, and we have not requested any. That is partly principle and partly consistency: this site does not test products, so a free sample would have nowhere to go.
• Paid placements. Nobody has paid to appear on a list here, and nobody can.
• Sponsored posts or paid links. None, and there is no rate card because there is nothing to sell.
• Guest posts. Every word on this site is written by us.

Prices

Any price shown here comes from a live data layer and is stamped with the date it was checked. Prices and availability are the retailer's and change without notice, so the figure on the retailer's page at the moment you buy is the only one that is binding. When our data is not fresh, the button says “Check price” rather than showing a number.
